Open house
The Boathouse Group has opened in Rushcutters Bay-Darling Point, pairing with the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia to run hospitality at the clubhouse. The 300-seat harbour-front venue is the second eastern suburbs venture for the group — well known for its stylish venues in landmark waterfront locations — after the popular Boathouse Rose Bay on New South Head Rd.
The CYCA partnership launched on September 1 with a new menu and, soon, some styling updates for the New Beach Rd club, which is best known as the home of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race.
“It’s a privilege to be developing a world-class food and drink offering at such a loved Sydney destination and home to Australia’s most famous and prestigious yacht race,” says Antony Jones, CEO of the Boathouse Group.
“The Boathouse Group is thrilled to continue to showcase iconic waterside hospitality venues with elevated and diverse offerings throughout Sydney and the Central Coast, with more to come.”
2024 marks the 80th anniversary of the launch of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, which opened in 1944.
The new menu from Boathouse executive chef James Brownrigg will feature a seafood-forward list, including calamari fritti, prawns with seafood sauce, fish and chips, orecchiette with crab and chilli, and Sydney rock oysters. The venue will be given a refresh “to bring the beautiful Boathouse aesthetic with an abundance of plants and signature lobster-pot ceiling pendants”.
Boathouse CYCA joins a list of 10 Boathouse venues found in prominent seaside locations across Sydney, including Barrenjoey House, Manly Pavilion and Moby Dicks at Whale Beach.
For locals wanting to go to the newly revamped club, there’s only one catch — you have to be a member, guest, or visitor (living outside a 5km radius of the club) to sign in.
