When painter Christine Webb returned from an overseas trip recently she received what she describes as a "huge wake-up call".

“Having had the privilege of travelling for years and visiting many awe-inspiring places, I realised the beauty of Sydney had been here all the time. Rooftop eaves, jacaranda trees and the freshness of a harbour breeze are my delights in life," she says.

So Webb got to work painting a series of pieces that place Sydney’s built environments in the foreground of her work. In particular, she paid attention to the eastern suburbs, from Paddington to Vaucluse, creating a series of paintings vibrantly depicting the neighbourhood and its houses, mostly from the inside looking out.

The result is The Curated Interior, an exhibition of 11 pieces that will be held at the Art2Muse Gallery on Jersey Rd from March 19 to April 1.

“I like to take many of my favourite things and curate a place where I feel my passions and memories are contained,” Webb says. “I have held a fascination for windows, the light entering and the passageway beyond. Paintings can sometimes be described as frames and I like to order the current works with frames within frames and have placed paintings within my paintings.”

The paintings brim with life and you may find some views that you recognise.
