Celebrating postcode 2021
Paddington businesses are coming out to celebrate the 2021 postcode on Thursday March 25 with a cheerful evening of events and activities.
The 2021 Night Out event has been initiated by Woollahra Council and supported by City of Sydney as part of a year-long campaign to raise awareness about Paddington in a year when Paddington shares its postcode with the date code.
Visit Paddington president Michael Fegent says the business partnership group has gotten behind the initiative and would love to see locals and visitors out in force on the night to celebrate the suburb, its businesses, its people and heritage.
“I think it’s a great opportunity to really show what we have here,” Fegent says. “We have some of the most incredible restaurants, shops, galleries and spaces in Sydney, if not the whole of Australia, why not show off what we have?
“We want people to come to Paddington, to experience the best of the suburb, spend some time here and keep coming back. It’s an exciting year for us and we encourage everyone — businesses, locals and visitors — to get involved.”
On the night, hospitality venues will be able to have pop-up activations in front of their venues, meaning people can wander from venue to venue sampling or buying bites and drinks. Some shops will offer champagne in store, discounts or special offers as part of the activation. Some venues will have live music, bands, DJs or other decorations to mark the night.
Rose Bay is also holding a similar event — a Rose Bay Evening — on March 11, on which businesses in that neighbourhood will also offer deals, discounts and entertainment.
“I’m really excited about these events, which aim to bring people and businesses together and create a great community experience,” says Woollahra Mayor Susan Wynne.
“They are a perfect example of what is so special and unique about Paddington and Rose Bay, which have such a wonderful village feel.
“These nights are a great opportunity to get out, shop local and have a fun evening.”
Some of the Paddington activities on March 25 include a taqueria cart and mariachi band at Tequila Mockingbird, a margarita-and-magazine deal at Journals, gift-with-purchase at LoveDuck, an $85 glow facial at Nua Skin Bliss, 10% off and a glass of bubbles at Di Nuovo, 10% off at Elph Store.
The 2021 Night Out is part of a raft of activities being planned for Paddington through the year. Activities and activation will roll out across 2021, including the return of the William Street Festival — rebranded as the Paddington Festival — in October.
